CRIMELINK / FAQ
QUESTIONS
What is Crimelink?
A location-based crime strategy RPG for mobile. Your city becomes the board: real, publicly accessible venues become digital turf you can search for weapon parts, claim, and fight over.
Underneath the map it is a duel game. Fights are real-time — read the tell, dodge the swing, snap back a counter. Your timing decides it, not a dice roll behind a loading bar. Haul parts back to the workbench, craft a signature special onto your weapon, and bank what you carry before someone takes it off you.
For what’s live versus what’s coming, see the roadmap.
Do I have to go outside?
No. Crimelink is playable three ways: on-site, local, or fully networked. Networked mode never touches your GPS and still gives you the whole game — the map, the venues, the duels, the crafting, the crews.
Standing at a venue in person earns at a higher rate, because that is the point of a location-based game. But it is a bonus for going out, not a wall to keep you in. If you can’t travel, don’t want to, or it isn’t safe where you are — you can still play.
Which cities work?
Kalispell, Montana. One city, mapped street by street — 578 real venues. That is the whole world today, and we would rather say so than imply a network that doesn’t exist.
More cities unlock by demand: your city opens when enough players ask for it. Flying between cities is on the roadmap, not in the build.
Is my location shared with other players?
No. Never your precise live location. Other players see your presence in the game — standings, crews, fights, bounties — not a dot following you down the street. That is a permanent design rule.
The app reads your location only while it is open and on your screen; background it and tracking stops. Our servers keep your most recent verified position and overwrite it each time — there is no location history. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
Is it pay-to-win?
Right now the question doesn’t apply: there is nothing to buy. No purchases exist in the build. Every item in the game is earned.
TODO(owner): the working direction is cosmetic-only monetization, and that is the right answer to give — but it is a business commitment, not a code fact, so it needs your sign-off before it is published as a promise. Once you commit, say it plainly here and hold to it. Until then this answer stays as-is.
How do I get into the alpha?
Join the founders list — one email field, at the bottom of the home page. It is the only route in: launch news and alpha invites go to that list first, and we send nothing else to it.
Joining the list is not a guaranteed alpha slot — invites go out in waves as the build is ready for more players. But it is where the first wave comes from.
What does it run on?
The build running today is Android, and every screenshot on this site is captured from it.
TODO(owner): confirm and state the plan for iOS and any other platform before answering further. The app is built on a cross-platform stack, but “it could build for iOS” is not the same as “iOS is supported” — don’t let this answer become the next over-claim.
Do I have to break the law? Is this safe?
No, and that isn’t a disclaimer — it’s a design rule. Crimelink never requires a real crime. No trespassing, no purchases, no interaction with any business, ever. The crime is fiction, start to finish.
Play only from lawful, publicly accessible areas, and never while driving. If a place is closed, private, or restricted, it isn’t worth a venue search — the interaction radius is deliberately generous so you never have to get closer than the sidewalk. Watch where you’re going: your surroundings are real and the game is not.
Virtual control of a venue is not real ownership or access, and a venue on our map is not a sponsor or partner. See the Terms.
Can I play with other people?
Yes — crews are real and running. Shared bank, shields, objectives, crew hunts, and live chat. You can also put a price on a rival’s head: bounties and marks are live, with a hunter rank track that’s entirely separate from your player level.
Fair warning: the world is new and thinly populated. Crews work; a crowd to fill them is what an alpha is for.
My business is on the map. How do I get it removed?
TODO(owner): there is no venue removal channel today and this question will be asked. Publish a monitored address a business owner or resident can write to, plus what you commit to doing about it and how fast. Keep it consistent with terms.html §6.
How it’s made
Crimelink is an independently developed, human-directed game. ChatGPT and Google Gemini image-generation tools, commonly known as Nano Banana, assisted with portions of the visual pipeline. OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code assisted with implementation.
Every shipped visual asset was selected, composited, repainted, and edited in Adobe Photoshop and Aseprite. Creative direction, game systems, integration, testing, and final release decisions remain with the developer. No generative AI runs during gameplay.
Nothing in this game got here by typing a prompt and shipping the result. It got here the way it looks like it got here — by hand, one pass at a time.
